Contribute to the Dragons.
In addition to team dues, the continued operation of the organization depends on support from our community! Contributions can be paid online (or a custom donation amount can be entered on our SquareUp page) or in person with our Treasurer by cash, check, or debit/credit card. Please make checks payable to “Chicago Dragons RFC”.
Yearly Activities
The Chicago Dragons compete in two seasons each year. The spring season typically begins around the end of March and wraps up around the end of May. This season is reserved for social matches with clubs of the Dragons’ choosing. The fall season is the CARFU competitive season. The schedule is set by the CARFU Board and typically runs from Labor Day to the end of October.
Practices begin four weeks prior to the first match and kick off with what we call a “Rush Week”. Historically we have had a one day three hour “boot camp” to teach the sport but decided that by spreading it out over a week, we could bring in new members in a social setting on one day, followed by two other days of practice and fundamentals, and end the week with a two hour “Rugby 101” skills session. Regular practices are Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9PM each week during the season.
The Dragons are an active group off the pitch as well. Much of the fundraising efforts for the club occur during the off-season summer and winter months, in addition to social events.
Club Needs and Operations
The Chicago Dragons continue to strive to provide the best equipment for our players in order to be successful on the pitch. Currently our needs include:
New Jerseys
Rucking Pads
Try Post Pads
Practice and Game Rugby Balls
Portable Try Posts
Club Marketing Opportunities
The Chicago Dragons are one of the only clubs that consistently travel nationally and internationally representing the City of Chicago in the sport of amateur rugby. We are an active group on and off the pitch and as such there are many unique and exciting marketing opportunities with the club. From advertising on the club’s merchandise, to sports equipment branding opportunities, to active linking digitally on the Dragons’ website or Facebook page, we always seek out new ways to market both our club and our sponsors. Annually, the Dragons sell about 250-300 t-shirts as both fundraising and marketing opportunities.
